              Shorter - SR22

            Tony
started racing in the late 70's. His first drive was in a friends
Ford Anglia and it wasn't long after that he built a Mk1 Escort
for himself racing under the 22 number.
            The
class he raced in then was the equivalent of Class 3 as it is now,
the cars used x-flow engines mainly in escort and anglia shells.
            Tony
also raced regularly at Crewe stadium with the Hot Rod formula on
a Saturday night and he drove with the Hot Rods at Monmore Green
in Wolverhampton. Mixing with names such as John and Roger Titley,
Dick Williams, Jimmy Clark and the Langford brothers to name a few.
            Tony
raced at Black Park - Whitchurch, Red Hill - Telford, Woodseaves
              - Market Drayton and a host of other well known tracks during the
years with his brother Trevor mechanicing for him.
            In
1992, Tony built a Class 1 to race himself and also for his son
John to race in Juniors. Tony had many a successful meeting in the
Mini, a car which he had little to do with up until this time.
            In
1996, he bought a Class 4 which he qualified for his first Nationals
at Leominster with. Unfortunatley a third, fourth and fifth weren't
enough to make the final that year. Tony and John set about reshelling
the car at the end of '96.
            Early
in 1997, an accident in the Class 4 saw Tony airlifted to hospital
from STAR's track in Telford. Fortunatley no damage was done and
Tony was soon back on the race field. John had started to drive
the Class 4 regularly at this point and Tony took a break from driving.
            In
July 1998, Tony had a race in the front wheel open at North Shropshire's
venue only to have his first ever roll on the last corner of the
race. Fortunatley again he was ok and the car was repaired just
in time for the National Chamionships two weeks later.
            Tony
has had several outings in the Class 4 since '98 but spends more
time building and maintaining the cars now. He has built a few Class
1 Mini engines for customers also. He has always been known to build
his own cars and engines right from start.
            His
project for the winter of 2005 with John is the Class 3 Starlet
that they will be racing in '06.
